First Christian Church has always been known as a "sharing and caring" Church. In fact, our Church was instrumental in the founding of Share & Care - now the cornerstone organization in our community that provides charitable support to those in need.
Church Donations to Local Organizations - Each year our Church budget allocates thousands of dollars for donation to charitable organizations serving our community and vicinity. These organizations include Boone County Adult Day Care, CASA, Cornerstone Kitchen, K-Life, Share & Care and Sanctuary.
Community Use of Church Facilities - Our Church also provides free use of necessary facilities for regular meetings of such community gatherings as the Cancer Support Group, the Women's Community Bible Study and a monthly quilting group. Use of our Church facilities is also available on an occasional basis by other community groups, including:
Boone County Sheriff’s Department
Circle of Friends (“Breakfast With Santa”)
Chiristian Women’s Connection
Delta Kappa Gamma
Entergy Retirees Club
Farm Bureau
PEO
Polling Place for Elections
Retired Teachers
20th Century Club
Social Action: This committee seeks to identify ways and means, in addition to the above mentioned cash donations, in which our Church can help the needy people in our area. Two of the major projects each year involve food drives for Share & Care and Cornerstone kitchen. During the past four years, FCC's Share & Care Food Drives have resulted in 2,600, 3,400, 5,300 and 13,000 pounds of food being donated to Share & Care.
Sunday School Classes: The members of each of our classes take it upon themselves to support local, regional, national and world organizations (as well as individuals in need) to enable their charitable projects and ministries. Each year, the total of these donated funds accumulates to thousands of dollars that are channeled to people in need. In a recent 12 month period, our classes donated to 21 individuals plus the organizations listed below: The numbers in parenthesis indicate that multiple classes donated.
