On February 12, 1951, several young married couples and young men and women in the business world, met in the home of Rev. and Mrs. L.L. Rudolph for the purpose of organizing a new Sunday school class. The Hearthstone Class was organized on that date. One of those charter members remains in the class today: Faye Jordan. The name Hearthstone represents the hearthstone that radiates the flame of the Holy Spirit to those who want to be filled with the warmth of God’s love and grace. Our age group is 60+ and we have 55 members. Marj Collier has taught this class for over 45 years. The story goes that in 1965, Marj accidentally took the teacher’s book home by mistake, and Rev. Wolfe suggested she keep it and begin teaching the class. She did and has been a SUPERB teacher and GREAT leader.

The Hearthstone Class members have always been active in the total life of the Church and community. The members serve as Sunday School teachers, Church Board members and Officers, Youth sponsors, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Christian Men’s Fellowship, Choir, Vacation Bible School workers, many committees, and lay work. Many other positions have been held by members of this class. A sign hangs at the front of the Hearthstone classroom that we call Marj’s motto:

“WHAT YOU DO SPEAKS SO LOUDLY I CAN’T HEAR WHAT YOU SAY”

Our class studies from David Cook’s “Deep Truth, Bold Faith, Changed Lives”. On the first Sunday of each month the class members give a “Love Offering”. This funds our many worthy projects such as: K-Life, medical emergencies for those in need, families suffering burn-outs, two scholarships of $500.00 each to worthy graduates of the local school, hospice care and house, humane society, battered women and men’s sanctuary, clothes and supplies to needy students, youth and adult mission trips, senior adult ministry, missionaries, cancer relay, supplies for cancer patients, and multiple other worthwhile causes.

Our class is divided into groups of four to host the Class Social on the third Thursday evening of the month. We usually go to various restaurants for dinner and fellowship.

The Class Officers for this year are:

President: Noel & Mickey Pronger
Vice President: Charles & Rita Ramsey Secretary/Treasurer: Phyllis Young
Prayer Board: Mary Pledger
Finance Chairperson: Phyllis Young
Finance Committee: Phyllis Young, Wanda Jackson, Betty Gray McFarland and Nancy Sharp
Scholarship Committee: Robbie Cotton

The Hearthstone Class is a very loving, caring group that ministers to our members and the Church’s needs and we love fellowship and fun.
