pic OPEN DOOR

The Open Door class was organized in February 1973 with an early membership of five (5). The class met in the Church kitchen around the table. We presently have 33 on our class roll. Several members through the years have left to start new classes, and many of our class members have served and are serving as teachers for the Youth and the Children’s classes. Nine of the members rotate the class teaching duties. The favorite tradition of the class is the annual Christmas party, where “Santa” Charles Adair spends the entire year deciding the new twist to his Santa attire….additions have been a Carnack the Magnificent hat, flashing Christmas lights, and reindeer antlers. Carlene Bilke is the class Treasurer, and she distributes the cheer fund. Quarterly contributions are made to K-Life (a Christian community organization), Team Expansion (missionaries in Africa), and a medical student from our Church. Other contributions are made regularly on an individual as-need basis.

Our class members are active in all phases of the Church. Class members helped organize the first Adult Mission trip for the Church in 2006, and have participated each of the three years. Four members (Jane and Charles Adair, Sarah Newman, and Marcille Lawrence) have participated all three years. We have Choir members, Deacons, Elders, Committee chairs, Chair of the Board, Disciples Women’s leaders, Christian Men’s Fellowship leaders, bus drivers, Long Range Planning leaders, the Minister for the Fellowship Service, as well as the Pianist and the Music Leader for that service, and participants in the Senior Fellowship ministry.

The class members have a special bond because of the shared joys and sorrows through the years, but joyfully embrace new members. We don’t have a class motto, as such, although we probably would all agree that our mission is to love God, one another, and all of his creations by sharing His glorious saving Grace. We know how blessed we are, and we take seriously the Micah 6:8 scripture, “He has showed you, O Man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

YOU are welcome to join us on Sunday mornings…just walk through our Open Door.
