Below is a listing of our Sunday School Classes, which all begin at 10 am. Read each brief description to see which one(s) might be of interest to you and then click on the name of the class to be taken to a page with a picture of some of the current members plus more detailed information about the purpose and goals of the class. If, after a thorough review of the wide variety of classes already functioning, you fail to find one that exactly fits your particular needs, enlist a few like-minded people to join you in forming a new class!
Agnes Bass Shinn - This class is the oldest in the Church. It has been in existence for almost 90 years. During that time it has contributed much to this Church - the first Parsonage, a large sum toward our first Church building, the first pipe organ and on, and on, and on. We recently closed our Cheer Fund by giving a new computer and printer to one of our Church's college students. Louise Hetherington has been our teacher for the last 22 years. Over the past few years we have lost many of our members through relocations, sickness and death. But, even though we are now fewer in number, we are still mighty prayer warriors!
Cornerstone Believers - The Cornerstone Believers class was begun in 1998 for adults who had never attended nor were not currently attending Sunday School. Candi Martin is the teacher. The class takes “I Peter 2:6-10” as a scripture for their name. The Cornerstone Believers invite any adult who wants to build their relationship with Jesus Christ through study, fellowship and service.
Fountain of Life - The philosophy of the Fountain of Life Sunday School Class is to study and grow together in Christian fellowship and love through our study of the Bible. Class members range in age from 30-50+.
Hearthstone - Several young couples and young men and women in the business world met on February 12, 1951 for the purpose of organizing the Hearthstone Sunday School Class. The name Hearthstone represents the hearthstone that radiates the flame of the Holy Spirit to those who want to be filled with the warmth of God’s love and grace. Today our age group is 60+, and we have 55 members. Marj Collier has taught this class for more than 45 years. We study from David Cook’s DEEP TRUTH, BOLD FAITH, CHANGED LIVES. Our class is a very loving, caring group that ministers to our members and the Church’s needs-------and we love fellowship and fun.
Journey - The Journey Class began in September of 2003. Today, the class is made up primarily of college-age students and young adults. However, our class is open to anyone who wants to enjoy fellowship and study God's word. Visit our page and let us tell you more about who we are and what we do to serve our Church and enable Spiritual Growth through Christ.
Mustard Seed - This is the newest class in our Church, having started in 2007. We meet in the Church Library, which seems appropriate since we like to compare the different versions of the Bible and also to be near the coffee pot. We began our studies, after our typical lengthy discussion, with “The Faith We Affirm”, a book about what the Disciples of Christ denomination believes and does not believe. Mary Capeheart is our teacher, possibly against her will, but she does a superb job nonetheless.
Open Door - In 1973, the Open Door Class was only attended by newlyweds. Now we have a variety of members who range in age from their 20's to their 60's, and we have over 40 members on the roll. There are 12-14 members who rotate teaching duties. All members participate by bringing their Bibles and entering in the discussions. Our class contributes monthly to K-Life and missionaries in Africa. The annual Christmas Party is a highlight. All are welcome to enter our "open door."
Seekers - The Seekers take turns leading discussion on various materials pertinent to a daily walk with Christ. Recent studies were of materials produced by Max Lucado and Anne Graham Lotz.
Youth - Their are a variety of age-related classes available for our youth, beginning with "Rotation Sunday School" on to "5th & 6th Grade", "Junior High" and "Senior High".
